'The Favourite' and 'The Crown' actress will present her latest feature, Florian Zeller's 'The Father' at this year's Zurich International Film Festival.
Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman (The Favourite) will receive the lifetime achievement honor, the Golden Eye, at this year's Zurich International Film Festival.
Colman, who is currently filming and unable to travel to Zurich due to the corona pandemic restrictions, will link up to Zurich via a live-stream for the gala premiere screening of her latest film, The Father, which will have its festival debut on Saturday, Sept. 26. Directed by Florian Zeller, The Father stars Colman as a daughter dealing with her aging, declining father (Anthony Hopkins), who refuses to be helped in any way, even as he slowly loses his grip on reality. The Father premiered in Sundance this year and also screened at the Toronto and San Sebastian film festivals. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the film stateside on December 18.
Colman registered on Hollywood's radar following her performance as Queen Anne in Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite, a role that won her a Best Actress Oscar in 2019. She previously appeared in supporting roles in Lanthimos' The Lobster (2015) Paddy Considine's Tyrannosaur (2011) and the Edgar Wright comedy Hot Fuzz (2007).
Before The Favourite, Colman was best known for her British TV work, including the comedy series Peep Show and crime drama Broadchurch. More recently, she's appeared to critical acclaim as the domineering Godmother in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag, and as Queen Elizabeth II in the third season of Netflix's The Crown.
She will reprise her role as Elizabeth II in The Crown's upcoming fourth season.
"Olivia Colman is one of the most exciting character actresses of her generation. She is a highly versatile performer who embodies her characters with great depth,” said Zurich Film Festival's Artistic Director Christian Jungen. "You never see the star when she’s at work, only the character. After having the privilege of showing her Academy Award-winning performance in The Favourite, we are deeply honored to present her with the Golden Eye for her achievements."
The 2020 Zurich International Film Festival runs Sept. 24-Oct.4.
